Jane presents An Apple A Day by Karen Middleton

Today I have used the really adorable image An Apple A Day by Karen Middleton available in both rubber and as a digi from the store.

To begin with I coloured the image with Faber Castell Polychromos.  Normally if I am using a mixture of my crayons and Promarkes I first colour the image with the Promarkers then build up the colour with my crayons. This time I did it the other way round to see what would happen.  It was not very successful and I stopped pretty quickly after just playing on the hat.  I have heard of Promarkers sometimes blotting and have to admit in three years this has never happened to me - until today lol.  So here is the coloured image complete with my Promarker bleed grrrrrrr :) and yes the ugly pink bit at the top was me wiping the ink oozing out from the nib, alas after the damage to the image.  To cover up the bleed at the end of the card I added a very small butterfly.

With the image coloured I then created my card.  The design papers are freebies I have had for ages from a magazine.  I used the same design papers to create the flowers with another freebie, the Die'sire - blossom fleurs die which came on a magazine recently.  Rather like this die, easy and effective and perfect for adding height with a strong flower.  Each of the flowers was finished off with three pink pearls.  The cream leave behind the flowers were cut with Spellbinders Foliage and a second butterfly was added to one of the flowers.  Both butterflies were finished off with some extra fine pink glitter on the edges and a teeny tiny blue gem.  The base mat was distressed around the edges, the image mounted on two mats and both layers here were distressed too.  The second mat was cut using Tattered Lace die.  Some white lace was added for a wee bit of texture then the leaves and flowers were added.

The inside of the card used up the final scraps of paper I had left along with a caterpiller die from Poppystamps - he is so cute and saying as there is a caterpillar appearing out of the apple in the image I had to add him to my card.  He was also cut out of my design paper scraps.

Ingredients :-

  • Image - An Apple A Day by Karen Middleton
  • Colouring Medium - Polychromos and Promarkers
  • Dies - Die'sire - Blossom Fleurs, Spellbinders Foliage Tattered Lace die (can't remember the name) and Poppystamps caterpiller
  • From my stash - lace, pearls, design papers

Variation's Week: Holley's View

Hello everyone!  Hope you are all enjoying the variations week here at Sweet Pea stamps!  So much fun, isn't it?  I know I love to see what all of the different designers do with the same image.  Here's my take using Karen Middleton's image "An Apple a Day"

I colored the image using Copic Markers and added some Washi tape to my card.  I added some Glitz, the word Friends, as I can so see her holding her own imaginary conversation with the little tiny worm in that apple.  I also used a wonderful sentiment from Sweet Pea stamps "For every beauty there is an eye somewhere to see it. For every truth there is an ear somewhere to hear it. For every love there is a heart somewhere to receive it."

Here's a close up of my coloring of this image

I hope you have enjoyed seeing all the wonderful variations on this week's stamp.  Be sure and check out all the fun images from artist Karen Middleton at the Sweet Pea Store this week.

Cheers, Holley

Variations Week: Aletha’s View

Hi all! This week the SPS Design Team gets to work with an image from Karen Middleton’s collection. Karen’s images can be found in rubber and digi format, whichever is your favorite. We each were given “An Apple a Day.” Wait until you see the variety of little pieces of art using this one image.

I colored with my Copics and then die-cut with Spellbinder’s Label Ten.

Copics used:
YG91, 93, 95, 97, 99
R20, 21, 24, 27, 29, 81, 83, 85, 89
E000, 11, 21, 25, 27, 29, 33, 41, 42, 43, 44, 47, 49
YR20, 21

Frantage was added to the die-cuts. I really like the way it looks on other artist’s projects, but not on mine. I guess that I really need to practice.

Have you checked out our One Sweet Challenge? The theme is to use your favorite technique. For your information, Sweet Pea Stamps will be closed until August 25. Digis orders can be place during the time of closing; no rubber stamp orders will be completed.

Thanks for stopping by. Check back every day this week for some amazing inspiration from the SPS Design Team.

Variations Week: Ali's View

It's Variations Week again and this month the Design Team have all been creating with this adorable An Apple A Day stamp by Karen Middleton:
I loved the cute rather vintage style of this image and I decided to try colouring it in sepia tones, with red apples as little touches of colour:
I also added some Glossy Accents to the apples and edged the image with Antique Gold Frantage embossing powder. I used some pretty patterned paper that I got recently and added layered lace and pretty blossoms.
You can buy this adorable image in red rubber or digi format from the Sweet Pea Stamps store. Don't forget to check back during this week to see the rest of the Design Team's fabulous creations using this stamp.

Variations Week: Karina's View

Hello everyone, today I want to show you my view of this sweet image by Karen Middleton. This one is 'An Apple a Day'. This cutie is available as a rubber stamp, and as a digital stamp as well.

Below you can see a close up of the image. I coloured her with Copics and the background papers I used are from Simple Stories.

Variations Week: Kym's View

This week is my favourite time on Sweet Pea Stamps.  Before I was on the Design Team I used to long for this week whereby the Design Team would make a card/creation using the same image.  I was always amazed how different the cards were.  Now what amazes me - and I still have to pinch myself at times - is that I am part-and-parcel of this wonderful Design Team so I get to show you my creation I have made.
For our cards/creations this month we had to use the Sweet Pea Stamps image by Karen Middleton called "An apple a day".  It is available as a digital image or as a rubber stamp.  For my card I have used the digital image and made it a little bigger than I normally do.  I have coloured the image in with my Promarkers/Flexmarkers and highlighted areas with my Pan Pastels and some Stampendous Fran-tage in Shabby Blue.  I have inked around the edges with a chalk ink pad.  The backing papers I have used are bright pink and lime green and are freebies from Summertime Designs.
Here is a close-up of the image with the Fran-tage.  I still struggle with this stuff blowing off even though I heat from underneath but at least I am getting more staying on the card!!!  I have coloured a chipboard die-cut petal shape with a Rose Bud Memento ink pad.  I then stamped in black Versafine "Happy Birthday" using a freebie stamp and embossed with clear embossing powder.  I then used a peg stamp and the same Rose Bud ink pad and stamped around the edge.  I have finished the card off with a Tim Holtz butterfly border die which I have inked with Tim Holtz's Tumbled Glass and Peeled Pain distress ink pads, doilies, gingham ribbon bow, flowers and gems.

Variations Week: Alex's View

Once again it is my favorite week of the month, Variations Week.  I just absolutely love seeing what the rest of the Design Team creates when we all work with the same image!

This week we all used Karen Middletons' An Apple A Day.  I decided to go with more of a fall type coloring.  I had some absolutely perfect paper for the background left from my Bo Bunny Apple Cider collection I got last year.

Don't forget, for the next couple of weeks the rubber stamp portion of the Sweet Pea Stamps store is closed, but you can continue to order digital stamps.

Get Inky!
Alex
