Featured artist Elaine Cox, Little Seahorses Mermaid

 Don't you just love Sweet Pea artist Elaine Cox?  She makes some beautiful whimsical characters.  Here's a mermaid that I totally adore. This image is called Little Seahorses Mermaid. I added a simple sentiment from Cosmo Crickett "Embrace each day as it comes."  I wanted to do a monotone card in all greens to match up to her beautiful green tail.

Elaine Cox also has some totally stunning lady images, as well as some adorable teddy bears, cute owls, and a whole assortment of Alice in Wonderland themed stamps.

Little glittery seahorses and mermaid ATC

It's been a while since I made an ATC (artist trading cards) so I thought I'd give it a go again. I've been away to see my mom before Christmas and brought my copics to practice my coloring skills. I love making ATC's out of those images since I don't have to bother about matching them up with any papers. Coloring that way makes it more free.

The image I have used is by Elaine Cox and it's called little seahorses mermaid from plate 48.

Sassy and Sweet

Isn't Love Lace drawn by Joanne Schempp just a touch sassy, but still so lovely?  I really love Joanne Schempp's artistic style and this is only one of many of her images I am enjoying playing with.  If you haven't added some of her designs to your Sweet Pea Stamps collection, you really should.

This little sweetie is called Seahorses Mermaid drawn by Elaine Cox for Sweet Pea Stamps.  She is one of the 'older' images, but there are sooooooooooooooo many available at Sweet Pea Stamps and they are all so beautiful, how can I not go back to the early ones and play with them some more?

Hello everyone!! Wow, it feels like ages since I've posted. I've missed everyone! And, now I'm back and loving all the new artists and team members! Such amazing talent.

Since I haven't done one in so very long, I decided I would have a surprise mini tutorial for you today with one of my all time favs by Elaine Cox....

Cardstock: Neenah Classic Crest Natural White

For the little flowers I used a teeny bit of BV02 & V05 in the very center and then went over it with the Colorless Blender to have them bleed out slightly to give them a soft watercolor appearance.

I used small little horizontal strokes with E35 to give the Seahorse some patterns.

G20 Wax White, is one of my favs. It brightens up your greens without being too bright or too washed out.

E50, E51 and E42 continue to be my fav fast skin combo.

Too keep things from being to flat, I like to use shadows like E71 blended out with E70. You can see where I used this technique on her hair where it frames the back of her head. And for around her eyes I used BV02 blended out with BV000. The key with this is to have a very light hand. For her eyes I used E30 and E33. Leave some of the E30 showing for highlight.

I added a touch of E35 at the very top of her irises...where they meet the top of her eyelid. This gives them more depth.

For my finished card I added some Lemon Ice Stickles to some random strands of her hair. The background is colored in with a light wash of G20 and I outlined her with E71 so that she didn't blend into the background too much.

Seahorses, Mermaid and Sparkle

Hi everyone,

For my card today I decided to finish Elaine Cox's Little Seahorses Mermaid which is available as a single stamp or as part of Plate #48.

I colored her with Copics and then came back with some Twinkling H2O's on her hair to add some shimmery highlights. For the image background, I also used H2O's. For the flower centers, I added Stickles.

I also used my Distress Inks to edge all the layer panels and the card edges. I went for a distressed look with the background paper by crumbling it up, then flattening it and using my foam blending tool rubbed Distress Ink all over that. It adds a bit of dimension.

The sentiment is also from Plate #48 which I stamped using Tuxedo Black ink, then cut the sentiment panel narrow enough to fit one end through the metal label tag. To lift if off the paper a bit, I used 3D foam squares to adhere to the card.

Little Seahorses

For my card today I was determined to do a little more with the background than I have been lately. Funny thing is I had picked a DP with waves that I was excited about using with this underwater beauty and I pretty much covered it all up! I used my scalloped square Nestabilities for the piece under the main image and a Sizzix photo corner die for the corner pieces. They are both covered in stickles and then I added some gems to the corner pieces. The main image is colored with my Copics and the background is colored with Twinkling H2O watercolors.

Seahorses and mermaids down under

Today I would like to take the opportunity to show you a card made for a friend using my latest DT loot from sweetpea. This is the first time I've chosen to get some stamps drawn by Elaine Cox. This one is called little seahorses mermaid and I really love the cute little seahorses and the fresh zesty colours of the patterned papers that give the image a different feel. Wouldn't expect the sea to be all orange and flowery although it looks quite amazing in it's own way. Trust me, I've seen some amazing things "down under" and I'm not talking about Australia.

I coloured the image with my promarkers and coloured a white satin ribbon with lime green. It's one of my favourite tips of all time: purchase white ribbons and colour them in so you'll always have a perfectly matched ribbon. You'll save a lot and will always have a perfect colour match.
