The most beautiful view is the one I share with you

I'm so happy to show you my project this week. I've made an ATC - an artist trading card, which is about 2.5x3.5". It's basically like any trading card (and about the same size) and you change it with other artists the same way. It's such a brilliant way to use up those small scraps of pretty paper, small embellishments and your favourite small stamps - or parts of your bigger ones. The stamp I have used here is called Arden, by Nikki Burnette. The text stamp is also from sweetpea and can be found on ching chou kuik's plate #42.

You might think that this kind of small thing goes fast to make, but since I'm not used to this size it took about as long as a card. I really liked working like this because it made me focus on more details. Usually I don't want to overwhelm my card, but here it's almost a must, otherwise it's just an image on pretty paper. You have to add some oomph ;) My oomph is adding glitter to the patterned paper's flowers and the girl's hair and wings. I also added dimensional glaze to her hair to make it pop. I machine sewed around the border of the patterned paper before attaching it to the darker pink cardstock. I also stamped the text and embossed it with silver embossing powder. I coloured the image, cut it out and attached it where the sewing line is. By placing her this way it looks like she's inside a frame and her wing goes outside of it. I love this illusion of a frame.

I had so much fun with this that I think I'll have another go at it. You should try it too and send your creation by e-mail for us to showcase next time we have our customer submission week.

Sparkly Spring Fairy

I am so ready for spring! I decided that to brighten up this cloudy day I would work with some cheery colors. I added lots of sparkle and blooms to finish it off! Nikki has some gorgeous fairy images be sure to check them out!

My Heart Belongs to only you!

Here's a beautiful image from artist Nikki Burnette named Arden (click here). This stamp is sold individually and on Plate #82. I love the coy look on her face and the mask she carries to hide herself. I think that makes the saying "My heart belongs to only you!" go with this card so well, as this woman would hide herself from others and only look her lover in the eye.

That great saying comes from plate #102. I used some wonderful paper from WeR Memory as the background on this card along with some mesh to give background color. I used some Colorbox chalk to soften the edges and add depth to the whiteness of the papers. Then I added some color matching buttons and ribbon to round out the card with some simple highlights.

The Arden Experiment...

is what I'm calling my card today. Hi everyone, Micki here. I think I should be known as the gal that will make mistakes and figure out how to blend these mistakes into something that can still be used, lol.

Before I show the card, I have to fill you in on the 'mistake'. I had finished coloring Nikki Burnette's Arden with Copics and wanted to do something a little different with the background. Since I'm still working on "arranging" my craft room, my eyes fell on these pastel chalk pencils which I've had for eons but never used. I'm thinking they should work like any other chalks as in the Pebbles, Inc. Pearlescent Chalks, right? Well, perhaps it would have worked like that but you know me..... oh I can't leave well enough alone.

After I used the blue chalk pencil, I then went over all the blue because it was a little too vibrant with the white chalk pencil thinking it would soften the overall color. Ugh, the white chalk pencil acted like a blender pen. I then grab a blending stump and Futuro Floor Polish (I know - don't ask, it was late and obviously I wasn't thinking) and blended.

Maybe if I had colored more of the white background, it would have worked but I was trying for a gradual lightening (I can't think of the word ....). Soooo, I broke out the heavy weapons:
acrylic paint and glitter. And I mixed the Martha Stewart Aquamarine Crystal glitter with the paint. Using a foam brush I dabbed it all around the image:

Did you notice it? The texture? To blend it in a little more I used Sapphire on Ice Twinkling H2O's applied with a water brush then dabbing any excess 'puddles' with a paper towel. I love it.... now you guys may have known about that, but I didn't so I was sort of thrilled, lo.

My coloring was really off especially on the hair. (You may not know it, but I am very VERY intimidated to color these beautiful images because of the tiny details). Also had a couple of goof ups on the wings, so I just added micro seed beads to the wing tips. The orange part of the wings is Distress Stickles. The flower centers are 2mm Gold Rhinestones and for the green vines, I used regular Stickles.

All in all, I learned a lesson. Next time before I use a new medium, I should perhaps read up on it before almost ruining a project :-). But I do like the end result - something a little different and besides, Nikki Burnette's Arden which you can get as part of Plate #82 is gorgeous! It truly is hard to mess up any project with this gorgeous stamp.

A Couple of Valentines

Hello! I have made a couple of Valentines today with images by Nikki Burnette. The first one uses Ryla from Plate 73. I just love her lingerie and the cute little owl! The paper is is one sheet, with the layered look printed on it. It was a little bigger than I like to make my cards though, so I cut the center pink section out and moved the beige corners in. It still has the same look as the pre-printed piece but is now 5.25 inches square instead of 6. I know that may seem like a lot of effort for such a small change, but I have envelopes that will fit the 5.25!! I also wrapped silver cord around the card to mimic the strings hanging in the image. The sentiment is a vertical sentiment from Plate 52, but I cut the letters apart so I could mount it horizontally.

My second card uses Arden from Nikki Burnette's Plate 82. This is one of my favorite cards that I have made in a long time! I know it is pretty simple without a lot of embellishment, but I was so pleased with how it came out! All of the papers and the "forever" sticker are form Echo Park. (I've just realized that it looks like I mounted the music sheet upside down because the parts that are showing all have the notes upside down! I think most of the "right side up" notes are under the heart! I don't play an instrument - is this normal?!))

Arden

I created this card for Sweet Pea Stamps DT and I used one of Nikki Burnette's newest images. Her name is Arden and she can be found on Sheet #2 Plate #82 with 3 other gorgeous stamps or she can be bought indiviually. I love this image and I remember as soon as I saw her she was my favorite and of course she was also in my favorite colors (green and brown). So I knew as soon as I got her I was going to color her in green and brown also as I just loved Nikki's orginal artwork of her.
I made the brown rolled paper flowers by hand and also the lacey flower with the vintage button in the center.
