Thinking Spring

Yes, my mind is stuck on Spring. I am so ready for spring and am wishing to start seeing some green, can you tell?

And although I'm not a big fan of the bugs and insects that come along with warmer weather, this little insect from Plate 10, with those adorable eyes fluttered into my heart.

To color him (or her) I used copics. I knew immediately that the card stock I used was not Neenah Classic Crest Smooth. I think it was Georgia Pacific. Not to say that GP card stock is wrong, but I should have changed the technique I used to colored the image. The ink bled quite a bit outside of the lines, which would not have happened with Neenah. But no worries, I left the image along for a couple of days, then pushed the ink back inside the lines using C01 - which is a real light cool gray. I actually use the C01 marker to outline around 90% of my colored images, which adds some depth (and doesn't hurt since I color outside of the lines a lot - by accident, lo).

I did not a sentiment yet. On images that are so universal and can be used for almost any occassion, I always leave the sentiment off. What I do, is stamp out several different sentiments onto a sheet of card stock and then when I need a certain sentiment, I can trim or punch out one I need.

I hope my card has generated some visions of spring for you, lol.... I know it did for me. If you haven't checked out Plate 10 at the shop, you really should head over there. It's a great plate, includes several sentiments as well as a Sweet Pea Pals image.

Caught a Bug?

When I saw the sentiment and image on Plate #10 I could not resist making a card with them. For this card I decided to also stamp the wing on vellum. I colored the wing from the back of the vellum and then placed stickles on the front. After it had all dried, I cut the wing out leaving a tab at the bottom which I used to adhere it to my card giving it some dimension.

Don't let LIFE get you down! That's the sentiment shared on the front of this card. Since it is Friday, I hope you are all happy!


This card uses an adorable image from Plate 10. The background is black cardstock with specks of gold. I stamped the image using Versafine ink onto white cardstock. After it dried, I used Derwent Inktense water soluble pencils to color in the image and a blender pen. I mounted the image with dimensional tape onto a complimentary purple printed paper. I stamped the sentiment (also from Plate 10) onto a metal rimmed tag and punched a hole in the tag. For decor, I added cute floral embellishments.

TIP: A great way to get your tag to stay on your card is to tie a ribbon in a bow, cut the ribbon loop so the bow in now in the center of the ribbon, push the bow through the hole in the card. Now your tag is being held in place by the bow and you have loose ends that you can use to wrap around the card.

The inside of the card is decorated using an identical piece of printed cardstock with cute flowers and stamped images from Plate 10.

Get Well Soon

Here's a cute and simple Get Well paper piecing that I made using a stamp from plate #15



To make this card, first stamp the image four times: once on blue textured cardstock, once on printed red paper, once on brown cardstock, and once on white paper. I cut out the "jeans" from the blue image, the "shirt" from the red image, the hair/shoes from the brown image and adhered them all to the white image. I then colored in the face and arms of the image with Copic markers.

I layered my paper piecing on blue and then red paper. I stamped the get well saying from sheet #10 .

Today we are featuring one of Katarina's "Best Of" cards

Here's is a really cheerful card from the Sweet Pea Pals sheet. I knew as soon as I saw these girls that I wanted to make a bright and happy card. I originally wanted it to be a birthday card, but when seeing the "cheer up!" text from plate #10 I knew I had to use it instead.


I have used my oval nestabilities and promarkers to colour the girl.

Colours used:
saffron, petrol blue, lime green, orange and berry red. Yellow is from my old pantone collection although promarker's "canary" is very similar. Flowers and buttons from my huge stash ;) and paper from DCWV.

Connie-All-In-One Card

This project does Double Duty. It can be used as a card and an envelope both!

Supplies:

One piece cardstock 12" by 12"

2 smaller white pcs. cardstock for insides

1 pc. of clear acetate to cover pc. of white cardstock

Scor Pal (or other scoring tool)

Ruler

Paper cutter
Sweet Pea Plate #10

Cuttlebug embossing folder "Leafy Branch"

Copic markers

small brads, circle punch, glitter pen

Directions:

1) Cut paper to 12" by 5.5"

2) Score at 4 1/4" and 8 1/2" to make an A2 size card with end flap

3) Emboss end flap in Cuttlebug by placing only the small part in folder. Lightly run an ink pad over embossed design to bring it out.

4) Stamp the bug and "Heard" verse on one white panel, color and adhere to inside

5) Stamp "get well" verse on other white panel, set aside

6) Stamp bug on pc. of clear acetate (this turns image into opposite direction) and color with Copics on back side, allow to dry fully

7) Punch small holes in 4 corners and layered over white panel and attach to other side of base

8) Cut end flap with shape cutter if desired, I rounded the flap

9) If using as envy, place envelope glue along flap & address the back

This could be a card & envy together or an invitation or whatever you want!

It's a banner day!

I got the idea of making a banner when I was browsing some websites a few months ago. This will be given to my niece Alexa for her birthday; she can hang this in her room. I used images from Sweet Pea Stamps - plates 8, 9, and 10. Here's how it was done.....

• Cut 3 lime green and 2 bright pink cardstock triangles 3 1/2 x 4", and cut 2 lime green and 3 bright pink triangles 4 1/4 x 5 1/2". Then trim long sides with decorative edge scissors.
• Using lime green and bright pink markers, color the decorative edges.
• Attach each small lime green triangle to a larger bright pink, and each small bright pink triangle to a larger lime green using double sided tape.
• I used my cuttlebug and alphabet die cuts to punch the letters for Alexa's name; apply each letter to the tip of each flag.
• I stamped the 5 Sweet Pea images using black India ink onto white cardstock.
• I colored the images using colored pencil, gamsol and a blending stump.
• Cut out the images and attach one to each flag above letter using double sided tape.
• Using glue dots, attach decorative flower trim across tops of flags leaving extra trim at each end.

TA DAA!!!! It's really easy and what little girl wouldn't love to hang this in her room??

Don't Forget! Memo Board

Supplies:

Sweet Stamps Plate 9 and Plate 10
Brilliance Graphite Black Ink Pad (Tsukineko)
White Card Stock (Unknown)
Stickles in assorted colors (Ranger)
Merlot Ink Pad (ColorBox)
Copic Markers in assorted colors (Too)
Pink Distress Crackle Paint (Ranger)
Flourish Stencil (The Crafters Workshop)
Mini Chalk Board (Unknown)
Mod Podge (Plaid)
Scissors (EK Success)

Instructions:

1. Stamp the images on white card stock and color with the markers.

2. Neatly trim out the images and set aside.

3. Paint the chalk board with the crackle paint and allow to dry.

4. Using the stickles, create flowers and dots on the chalk board for embellishment, allow to dry.

5. Position the stencil on the chalk board frame and color in by tapping the ink pad over the stencil.

6. Attach the stamped images to the frame.

7. Enjoy sharing!
