A pattern for fun

I am flattered to be invited to return to the design team this round and hope I provide lots of inspiration for your creative mojo. This card features the Sweet Pea plates number 7 and 5. It is pretty simple to make with just a few supplies, including your pc and printer.

Supplies:

Sweet Pea Plate #7
Sweet Pea Plate #5
Black Brilliance Ink Pad (Tsukineko)
White Card Stock (Unknown)
Solid Green Card Stock (s.e.i.)
Patterned Card Stock (Basic Grey)
Water Color Pencils (Stampin' Up)
Blender Pen (Stampin' Up)
Adhesive (Terrifically Tacky)
Mod Podge (Plaid)
Scissors
Computer
Printer
Paper Trimmer

Instructions:

1. Stamp the straight legged girl image on white card stock twice, leaving space between them.

2. Of the two stamped images choose the better and set aside. Trim the remaining image out for a mask.

3. Position the mask over the image and stamp the remaining image about .5 - .75" above and to the right of the first image, overlapping about .5".

4. Color in the images with the water color pencils and blend the colors with the blender pen. Trim the images out neatly.

5. Cut a piece of white card stock out that is 3" x 4.25", a piece of patterned paper out that is 3.25" x 4.5" and the solid paper to 5.5" x 8.5" and fold in half to create the card.

6. Using the computer and a word processing or image software, create a "pattern envelope" adding the name of the line and additional information.

7. Print a sample of the computer generated background on a full sheet of paper to verify size and positioning on the paper.

8. Using a small piece of adhesive, overlay the white card stock on top of the printed area of the test page and adhere. Position this in the printer tray so that the card stock will receive the printed information and print.

9. Adhere the stamped images to the front of the pattern with Mod Podge.

10. Mat the pattern to the patterned paper with double sided tape.

11. Using the text stamps, stamp "Girls just want to have fun." along three edges of the card front and "Just a note," at the lower right hand corner of the card front.

12. Adhere the matted image to the card front at an angle, positioning between the stamped sentiments.

Hello all!

My name is Holley. I live in Austin, TX. I have been a fan of stamping since 1998 when I stumbled into a scrapping shop. I had always been a big crafter, but never found a single craft that I was in love with until then. Though it was a scrapbooking store, I was drawn to this shelf of rubber stamps, embossing powders, and card making accessories. Ten years later and I am still in love with rubber stamping.

I like "cute" style stamping and all those funny corny sayings that go with stamps. My favorite technique lately is watercoloring images. I also love simple elegant looking cards that people think came off the store shelves. I enjoy making mini sized cards and using unusual templates to create things.

I have been published in many magazines such as The Rubber Stamper, Vamp Stamp News, and Stamper's Sampler. I also teach classes at some of my local stores in rubber stamping, wire working, polymer clay, and jewelry making. In my "off" time, I occasionally work as a Test Engineer (gotta have something to pay for all those stamps, huh?)

About me - Connie Piotter

I am also known as SoDakStamper. I live in the beautiful Coteau Hills of the Prairies of South Dakota on a working cattle ranch. Where the Coyotes roam and the stamp stores are few. I am married with 6 kids, all grown, married and moved out.

I've been stamping for about 10 years since my sister and a good friend urged me to try. I have been published in The Rubber Stamper, Scrap & Stamp Arts, The Canadian Stamper, Vamp Stamp News and several smaller publications. I am on several design teams and each is different.

I don't think I have a "style" as I like most types of images except for cute. I tend to concentrate on color and layout rather than embellishments....just call me the "Simple Stamper". I love making backgrounds and usually torture paper till it screams.

When I am not stamping I enjoy reading a good thriller, feeding birds, working on my "still unfinished" Koi pond or visiting my grandkids.

I love the Sweet Pea line of images and think I will enjoy working with the other team members. Who knows? Maybe that adorable "Gumdrop Gang" will get me into "cute" yet!

Connie-Hello Sunshine

It's Hayden from the Gum Drop Gang saying "Hello Sunshine!" Isn't she adorable?

I used my Cuttlebug to cut & emboss the nifty frame, swiped a white dye ink pad over the spots for contrast. I stamped Hayden with black dye ink and colored her with markers and water pen. Then I stamped a mask of Hayden & tore a post-it note to mask between sky and grass, punched a circle for the sun and sponged inks for the background. I removed the sun circle and used the reverse mask there for color.
Put it all together and tied a small piece of organza yellow ribbon around the frame & stamped saying in black, rounding corners of base card.

I cut pink BG paper slightly smaller than white card (A2 size) & tied ribbon around it before attaching to white base.
Stamped girl image on white & colored with SU markers, adding white dots on hat and bag to match paper.
Stamped saying on white and cut to fit corner.




I tried putting the words on the outside around my image (see above) but decided I liked it better inside.

I'm so excited to have this opportunity as a Design Team member for Sweet Pea Stamps!
I started stamping about 10 years ago. I had never thought of myself as being the 'creative type', but it is amazing how far I've come in this craft. And it is even more amazing how far the craft of rubber stamping has come in those 10 years also. When I began I thought it would be great to make all my own greeting cards.... think of the money I'd save! SAVE MONEY!!! Yeah, right! There are so many stamps, inks, paints, pens, pencils, tools, etc ... and yet, they keep inventing more of this stuff that I just MUST HAVE!!!
I hope you enjoy looking at the ideas that the design team will be posting to this blog. Come back often to check on what's here. We'll do our best to keep your interest using Sweet Pea stamps. Let us know what you think, and please, let us know what you might be interested in seeing too.

Sweet Pea Pals - Plate #9

Here's a very simple birthday card. It would be perfect for a young girl. I'm thinking of making several of these with different papers and layouts. Then I'll tie them with a ribbon or place them in a decorated bag to give as a gift to my granddaughter. She can then give them to her girlfriends as they have birthdays!


I started with a 5 1/2 x 4 1/4" piece of blue cardstock and folded in half.
I had some embossed cardstock from Paper Adventure that I cut to 5 1/4 x 4" and then trimmed with a decorative scissors around all 4 sides. Before adhering the embossed cardstock to the base I attached the blue star shaped ribbon brad that I had inserted a silver metallic ribbon in. I stamped the verse "It's your birthday!" in black ink onto the upper right corner.
I had stamped both Sweet Pea Pal stamps onto watercolor paper and painted with Twinkling H2O's and then mounted them onto black glossy cardstock. I attached one of the Sweet Pea Pals to the front of the card, and......


I attached the other Sweet Pea Pal to the inside of the card. I also stamped 2 more of the verse stamps that come with this set (plate #9) - "Let's celebrate with presents!" and " Happy Birthday!"
Cute card..... Perfect for one young girl to give to another.... don't you think?

A bit about Alex:



I was first introduced to stamping at a D.O.T.S. home party in the early 90s. I enjoyed myself and began what is now a very extensive inventory of stamps and stamp sets. I put my stamping aside for a period of time when I was first introduced to scrap booking. I had the mistaken idea that the two were not compatible. I began scrap booking in 1998 while on bed rest prior to the birth of my son. I have been passionate about it ever since and have really returned to stamping with the same passion about 2 years ago. I enjoy making cards with stamps immensely.
I am most inspired by colors and their combinations in nature. I love that no matter what colors they are, a flower bed is gorgeous and seems to all go together. I also enjoy cruising galleries of different made items, regardless of the craft, for inspiration. Etsy and I spend hours together at times.

I live in Idaho with my husband and our 2 sons. I work part-time in the financial industry and in addition to paper crafts, I also crochet, knit and dabble in some tatting and sewing. I have chosen to not even try several other hobbies as I usually enjoy them and begin a rapid buying spree of supplies.

Hayden - from The Gumdrop Gang

I fell in love with Sweet Pea Stamps the moment I saw Hayden. She begged to come live at my house and I am so glad I listened to her :).
For my first post as a part of the design team, I wanted to use Hayden and decided to create a tri-shutter card. I have been seeing this card design every where and love the versatility. I found the directions here. Be warned that some of the measurements when I accessed it were a bit off, so double check them before using in case they haven't been corrected.

I made a couple of different versions just to show how different the card can look with identical supplies just by moving some things around or using a co-coordinating solid color with the print. Since it doesn't photograph clearly, the sentiment reads "All the flowers of all the tomorrows are in the seeds of today. Indian Proverb". Enjoy!- Alex
